Wooden Clothing Storage
Centuries ago, people sought out creative ways and means for clothing storage. Homes were certainly not blessed with walk-in closets and, in some cases, there were no closets at all. People relied heavily on case goods which are wooden pieces such as boxes, chests, cabinets and more.
One of the more antique styles of wooden clothing storage is the cedar chest. This particular chest derives its name from its lining. Cedar is used inside the chest to deter moths and other insects from the clothing, furs, linens and other fabric items stored inside. The outside of a cedar chest was (and still is) often made from quality wood such as oak or mahogany. These chests, frequently called hope chests when used to store items for a future bride, still represent a viable way to incorporate wooden clothing storage boxes into the home, generally in the bedroom at the foot of the bed.
Wooden wardrobe storage is an excellent choice in virtually any home. Wood finishes from walnut, light or dark oak and cherry, all the way to wood laminates, ensure that wooden clothing storage choices can be found to complement any décor.
The use of wooden clothing storage cabinets in a house or apartment is a classic and, in fact, timeless way to extend the home's storage capacity. For an upscale addition, one might select a piece like a Chatham Armoire by New England Wood. These spacious cabinets are made of top-quality solid wood and feature double doors, hanging bars, sliding drawers and adjustable shelving.
For the more budget conscious, Sauder offers a lovely Mission Wardrobe made of fruitwood with hammered metal hardware. It features two doors, two drawers, an adjustable shelf and hanging space inside for clothing storage. If further dollar savings are critical, Sauder also produces inexpensive double door wardrobes (with and without drawers) made of Oregon oak. Just be prepared to assemble any items from the Sauder wooden clothing storage line.
Plastic and resin have become de rigueur in storage solutions in recent years but one would be hard-pressed to top the warmth and quality appearance of wood. Whether there is a need for something as basic as wooden watch storage or wooden shoe storage or a home requires serious levels of additional storage space, wooden clothing storage will always be a wonderful investment.
