Wooden Storage Solutions

Everyone can use a few more shelves, cabinets or sheds for storing and organizing things that seem to clutter around the house. There are numerous wooden storage solutions that come in kits or prefabricated wooden storage units that you can buy. However, the prices of wooden storage can be way too expensive or perhaps unsatisfactory in terms of materials, quality and workmanship.

If you are creative and into carpentry and woodwork, there will be endless wood storage projects that you can build yourself. The amount of money you can save on building a wooden storage depends on the time and materials needed to complete your project. The quicker the joinery and construction and the cheaper the materials, the less expensive it will come out.

Regardless of your skill level, you must first decide how much time and materials are worth putting the wooden storage together. Even if it's a project that is as straightforward as a bookcase, those considerations come into play. It's also worth thinking about where the wooden storage will reside and what it will be used for, whether you want a simple piece that fits in most any room or an upscale design that fits well in a formal living room.

You can choose to build a simple wooden storage made of pine that you can easily purchase in many home improvement shops or warehouses. Or you can make a simple but sturdy storage with adjustable shelves made from hardwood plywood with solid wood facings and moldings. Or classic designs made of solid wood with elegant moldings and intricate bracket feet.

Once you have the necessary tools it is quite easy building a simple wooden storage unit. You can rent tools from local home center if you haven't got them yet. When you purchase your materials you have to make sure the boards and wood are relatively free of cup, twist and crook. Plywood panels usually keep the cost down.

Use three-forth inch plywood as it is strong, and holds the screw well. You can add shelves if you are building a bookcase or display panel. With one sheet of plywood you can easily cut the case shelves and sides and even get two optional side panels from the same sheet. Of course, it all depends on how big you want your wooden storage unit. One thing good with DIY project is you can choose which wooden storage is the right for your time, budget and circumstance.
